I was delighted by this new addition to the retail line-up in Essex. The curated mix is rooted in the historical character of the Griswold Inn, but surprisingly lively and current, from artful mantel clocks assembled from found objects, to reproduction handmade pewter that skews modern, and a rainy day selection of books about shipwrecks, art and New England folklore. Pick up playing cards and jigsaw puzzles for happy hostess gifts or napkin rings drilled from beach pebbles. Lots of stuff for men, too, like the smart set of Gentlemen’s Notes for Forgetful Men–the pack includes Thank You, Birthday, Congratulations, and Love, of couse. Even the branded goods are well done, from the note card reproductions of the famous Griswold Inn art collection to the “Start Your Own Revolution” pint glasses (intended to celebrate Revolutionary Ale, the Griswold Inn’s new brew). Good and curious, it is.
