Water Street Shopping and the Velvet Mill
For a teeny town, Stonington offers myriad opportunities to part with your money. If you’ve lost your luggage, head straight to Indigo Bleu and paw through their packed racks for everything from Hanky Panky undies and beachy dresses to stacks of hand-printed tunics. Stop at Vagaries for authentic, handmade Spanish espadrilles (a bargain at $69). A. K. Dasher’s stock of sterling silver jewelry is priced at wholesale. Many of the antique shops have given way to jewelry and accessories: try Next and Tucci for beach hats, over-size sunglasses and trendy accessories. I’m smitten with the cheery fabrics at Hungry Palette (pictured). They’ve been churning out these vintagey handprints for 44 years and stitching them up into short and long A-line skirts. The maxi version is retro-cool and right on this season. Fabric panels available, too, for curtains or crafty projects.
