Saybrook Country Barn

For a full-on holiday experience, I can’t resist a visit to Saybrook Country Barn this time of year, and apparently, neither can most of the Shoreline! Lovely to see a retail store crowded with customers, vying for brie bakers, stocking stuffers and all manner of candle and ornament. The Apparel Shop is well stocked with old favorites (Eileen Fisher, Isda, Longchamp) and fresh brands (Suzanna Monaco, French Soles), but it was these kooky trees that caught my eye while on the hunt for fireplace tools. (Good to know: The Barn carries a singular selection of hand-forged pokers, shovels, tongs and brooms and custom-sized screens made by local artisans). Never thought I was the artificial tree-type, but these are tempting. No pine needles underfoot or daily watering, and the tall, skinny one not only matches my minimal decor but would sit happily in a tiny corner. The pine version can pass in a Charlie Brown Christmas sort of way and is studded with pinecones. That, and an evergreen candle and you’re good to go!
