White Gate Farm
Every time I set foot at White Gate Farm I promise myself I’m going to return weekly instead of semi-annually. It’s far enough off my beaten path that I don’t get over there much. But here’s the thing: it’s so worth the excursion! Not only is it a delightful shopping experience, it’s a feast for the eyes, and now it’s even better. Owner Pauline Lord has introduced prepared salads and savory galettes to go with her fresh-picked baby salad mixes, gorgeous veggies, free range eggs and Farm to Hearth Breads. She’ll even offer you a blanket for a picnic on the farm. The grain, bean or noodle salads are bright and flavorful, and this droolworthy cornmeal tart, stuffed with mushrooms, ricotta and creme fraiche, makes a lovely lunch or light dinner. A visit to the baby chicks is a must. Farm store open Wednesday 12 – 7, and Saturday 9 – 4, cash or check only.
