La Petite France, West Hartford
This petite French bakery/cafe lives up to its name in a grande way. It is, you could say, tout you could ever ask for. The mismatched wooden tables and chairs, pastoral oil paintings, and kids corner create a homey feel in which we enjoyed beaucoup authentic delicacies. A legit Croque Madam with perfectly melted gruyere and fried egg: mais oui. The baguette, crusty on the outside and soft and buttery in: bien sur. Crepes both sweet and savory made with buckwheat batter, just like they do á Paris and croissants—chocolate and plain: absolument. And we can’t forget les macarons, delicate and crunchy meringue exterior, creamy interior and gluten-free (almond flour, not wheat) in a dozen or so ever-changing flavors. Magnifique. Word on the street is Sunday brunch is le meilleur!
