Anything Goes at The Goodspeed
Anything Goes at the Goodspeed, thru 6/16
Every time I take in a show at the Goodspeed, I meet a virgin. A Goodspeed virgin, that is. And they always say the exact same thing: that they can’t believe they’ve never been before, that the talent is over-the-top, the venue is simply fantastic. Yup, I know. It’s incredible that we have a theater the likes of the Goodspeed right here in sorta rural Connecticut. The actors are triple threats straight from Broadway! The musicals are beloved classics. There is not a bad seat in the house (first row balcony is especially great!), and where else can you order a drink and have it waiting for you at intermission (yup, no line!)? Me, I love opening night, when the excitement is at its apex. We caught the season opener, Anything Goes, the other night, rife with Cole Porter’s classic songs, high-kicking dance numbers and plenty of laughs. Stephen DeRosa (Moonface) is a standout who you may have seen on Broadway in a multitude of performances including Into The Woods and Hairspray. But Rashidra Scott (Reno) steals the show with her stunning vocals, comedic delivery and dancing (Carole King Musical, Avenue Q, Hair). It’s de-lightful AND de-lovely!
